WannaCry Ransomware (Cyber attack). How to prevent it.

The biggest ever flaw in cyber security. The wannacry Ransomware affected the Britain's NHS (national health service) and some big companies in Spain, as well as computers in more than 150 countries including US, Russia and India. It locked data and demand ransom.

48,000 Ransomware attacks seen in India.
According to Quick Heal Tech 48,000 Ransomware attack seen in India. 60% of attacks by Wannacry. The antivirus maker company claimed it successfully detected Ransomware attack and cleaned malicious file responsible for the file encryption.

How did the attack spread globally.
It uses vulnerability of windows system which was first identity by the US NSA (national security agency) and leaked by hackers. It blocks the access by encrypting its content and then it demands Dollors to decrypt files.
It was first spotted at 9:45 am on 12th may by MalwareHunterTeam
How much ransom is demanded?
Victims of this attack were asked to pay $300 in the form of bit coin. The deadline of the ransom is three days after this the price is doubled. If payment is not made within these 7 days the files will be deleted, according to message displayed on screen.

How to prevent Ransomware. 
  • Keep your system up to date.
  • Do not open any unknown email attachments.
  • Install good firewall and antivirus  and keep up to date. 
  • Backup your data. 
  •  Shiw hidden file extensions.
  •  Filter EXCs in emails.
  • Disconnect network when suspicious file is found.
