Why are Xiaomi (Mi) phones so special? Behind the rush

Friends you must have come across the news about Redmi phones regarding its availability on online. Before you order the phone it just sold out in few seconds. What's special in Redmi or is there any strategy behind the story?

The Rush
You can get the idea of how difficult is to order a Mi phone if it sold out in just few seconds. Let's take Mi 4a when I ordered Mi 4a in the first sell it was not too tough but after this people come to know about this mobile and the demand suddenly increased. The fact in the phone is it is available in very low price just rs 5999. And you are getting a 16GB ROM, a 1GB RAM,  a 13MP camera and much. This is not about a particular product its all product are value for money.

Strategy
Company's every product trends on social media by telling specs and features to users and that's the marketing strategy. Unlike Oppo and Vivo they don't spend much on branding through TV ads or looking for a star to campaign.  If you look at specs and feature of their product you can't be upset at all even if you are hater of this company.

Why is it value for money?
People also wonder how MIi is providing such good products at this reasonable price. The answer is in the strategy of the company they don't spend ads or hire any star, they don't spend on RnD (research and development). The cost of marketing is not included in Mi phones and helps them to keep the price lower. Go to market and what you see is large very large posters Oppo, Vivo, Gionee. These companies have set their phones price quite higher just because of spending large amount on ads and marketing. You also tired of watching ads like selfie expert, selfistan and camera phones, this has become the lyrics nowadays. How can it be fix to only camera? Smartphone is not only about camera, off course good camera is necessary. But not all their phones are camera based, some of their products are good also.

Optical fiber

You must have heard about optical fiber and most of you always want to know about what it is and how it works. So this blog will help you.

What is optical fiber?
Fiber optics is transparent fiber made by glass (silica) or plastic. Fiber optics is made up of very thin strands of glass also called optical fiber. It is more advance than copper wire as it has very less signal loss compare to copper wire. Fibers are wrapped in bundles so that ti can be used to carry images. Optical fiber is very complex in manufacturing while joining electrical wire or cable. It needs very careful cleaving of fibers, precise alignment of fibers core and coupling of these aligned core.

How it works?
Fiber optics transmit data in form of light particles (photons) that pulse through the fiber optical cable. It is a light based technology. Optical fiber consist two main parts which includes core in which light travels and the another layer of glass is called cladding. The cladding job is to keep light inside the core. When light signals are sent through fiber optic cable, they reflect off the core and cladding in a series of zig-zig bounces and this process is called total internal reflection. Sometime these signals need to renew when the path is long. Therefore Repeaters  at certain distant intervals are used to regenerate the optical signal by converting it to electrical signal. Electrical signal is then processed to re transmit the optical signal.

Communication:
Fiber optics communication is used to transmit information from one end to other end.  One cable can have hundreds strands. This strand is very thin almost tenth of human hair and can handle almost 25,000 telephone calls. So an entire cable can handle millions calls. Military and Space industries also use optical fiber as means of communication.

Power transition:
Optical fiber can be used to transmit power using Photovoltaic  cell to convert light into electricity. While this method of power transition is not efficient as the regular methods.

Software testing ( Alpha testing vs Beta testing )

Software testing is an activity to meets the requirements and to check whether the actual result match the expected result. Software testing can provide objective, independent information about the quality of software and risk of its failure to users or sponsors. Software testing goes through two main testing, Alpha testing and Beta testing

Alpha testing:
Alpha testing is to ensure that the aplication is able to fulfill the basics requirement for what it is being developed. It includes unit testing, component testing and system testing. Alpha testing is conducted just after the development of the software is complete. Alpha tests are generally conducted in developers companies by their employees. Where they monitor the test and list out the possible errors or bugs. And then the manager of testing talks to the developer about the potential and possibilities of any bugs. After the completion of the Alpha testing the software is then ready to go for Beta testing.
Beta testing:
Beta testing also known as user testing or field testing takes place at customer's site. It allows customer to use the application under real condition. The companies seek feedback from users. Developers use user's feedback to fix the issues, bugs before release it to the public. Fixing the issues in beta release can significantly reduce the development cost as most of the minor glitches get fixed before the final release.

Difference between Mbps and MBps. Why pen drives show less memory than printed? (explained)

Mbps means megabits per second. Mb is used for download and upload speed. So remember when you have an internet connection of 8Mbps you are not downloading a file 8MB per second. You are actually downloading the file at 1MB per second.
MBps stands for megabytes per second. MB is used for file size.

Why does a pen drive or hard disc show less memory capacity than printed?
Most of us often think why we get less memory capacity in pen drives or hard disc. There are three reasons

  • It depends on operating system (OS) how it treat your disc. There are differences file formats and algorithms used by different operating systems.
  • A portion of memory space in your external storage is reserved for system files and data sector for better performance.
  • By default your pen drive is on NTFS format and some space is required for memory allocation.
  • The main cause of the difference between what is printed and what actually displayed n the computer is the calculation method used by disc manufacturing companies. Our computer understand binary system not decimal systen. For simplicity manufacturer use use 1GB= 1000*1000*1000 bytes rather than 1GiB=1024*1024*1024. In 1GB pen drive you actually get 1000000000 bytes instead of 1073741824 bytes.
